Wooden deck before renovation with a greyed, weathered surface
Wooden deck after renovation — oiled wood in its original colour

Deck renovation · Prague & all of Czechia

We give decks
a second life.

Under the greyed surface of your deck is wood that looks like the day it was laid. We know how to find it.

Not every old deck belongs on the scrap heap. Most are just waiting for someone to treat them right.

Grey wood and moss aren't the end of your deck. It's just a few tenths of a millimetre of weathered layer — the wood beneath it is healthy, solid and full of colour.

We chemically strip the weathered layer, replace damaged boards, check the structure, re-tighten the screws and finally treat the wood with premium Osmo decking oil. Your deck gets its original look back and is protected against UV and the elements, which significantly extends its lifespan.

Anatomy of a renovation

What's happening beneath the surface of your board

Click a layer to see exactly what we work with. The competition won't show you this — we will.

Weathered layer~0.3 mm

UV and water break down the lignin in the wood's surface. A grey, brittle layer forms — it looks bad, but it's only skin-deep. We remove it mechanically and chemically.

Protective oil3 coats

Penetrating oil with a UV filter soaks into the wood and protects it against water and sun.

Healthy woodboard core

A few tenths of a millimetre below the surface, wood in full colour and strength is waiting. This is why you renovate instead of demolish.

Load-bearing structurealways checked

We check the joist frame, bearers and fixings on every renovation and re-tighten the screws where needed. A deck's safety is decided where you can't see.

Warning · How NOT to do it

Why you shouldn't use a pressure washer

Probably the most common mistake we see on decks. For a few days after a pressure wash it really does look fine, but you're setting the deck back for years to come.

Damage to a wooden deck after cleaning with a pressure washer
Not like this
01

Great for the first few days

Pressurised water takes off the grey layer and the wood suddenly looks like new. Except a problem is already brewing beneath the surface.

02

A few weeks later it shows

Pressure above 100 bar tears the surface fibres of the wood. Half the oil is gone and water soaks in where it never reached before.

03

After one season you can tell

The wood greys and cracks faster than before. With a single cleaning you've cut years off your deck's lifespan.

04

Bare feet and splinters

Tiny splinters stick out of the torn fibres. Kids find out first — they run across the deck barefoot, and then you're sitting in the bathroom with tweezers.

FAQ

What people most often wonder about before a deck renovation

Didn't find your answer? Call us or fill in a no-obligation inquiry — we'll get back to you within 24 hours.

How much does a wooden deck renovation cost?

The cost of a deck renovation depends on the area, the state of the wood and the scope of work. After a free inspection you'll get a binding itemised quote at a fixed price within 48 hours — no “from” pricing and no hidden items. And a renovation costs a fraction of the price of a new deck.

How does a deck renovation work, step by step?

A renovation has four steps: 1) a free inspection and measuring, 2) a binding fixed-price quote within 48 hours, 3) chemical and mechanical removal of the greyed layer, replacement of damaged boards and a check of the load-bearing structure, 4) oiling the wood with Osmo decking oil with a UV filter. We finish a standard deck in 1–2 working days.

Is renovating a deck worth more than buying a new one?

In most cases, yes. The greyed layer is only a few tenths of a millimetre thick — healthy, solid, colourful wood is right beneath it. A renovation reveals and protects it for a fraction of the price of a new deck and extends the deck's lifespan by 10 years or more.

Do you renovate wooden decks outside Prague too?

Yes. We renovate decks all across Czechia — in Prague, Brno, Olomouc, Pardubice, Prostějov and smaller towns as well. Just fill in an inquiry and we'll arrange a no-obligation inspection anywhere in the country.

Why shouldn't a wooden deck be cleaned with a pressure washer?

Pressure above 100 bar tears the surface fibres of the wood. The deck looks better for a few days, but then it greys, cracks and splinters faster and the oil disappears. Instead of a pressure washer we use gentle chemical and mechanical grey removal that doesn't damage the wood.

How often should a wooden deck be oiled?

We recommend oiling a wooden deck once a year, ideally in spring. As part of our service programme we inspect, clean, de-grey and re-oil your deck every spring, so it stays in top condition for many years.

What oil do you use on the deck?

We use penetrating Osmo decking oil with a UV filter. It soaks into the wood, protects it against water, sun and mould and brings out the natural colour of the wood species. We pick the shade to match the wood species and your preferences — from natural to dark teak.

How long does a deck renovation take?

We usually renovate a standard deck in 1 to 2 working days, including drying time for the oil coat. For larger areas or when replacing several boards we'll confirm the exact timing in the quote.

We thought we'd be tearing the deck out. The guys from Renovace terasy brought it back in two days to a state where the neighbours ask where we bought the new wood.
